The 'Silhouette EP' (cylon)
The response to the first two tunes i have put up from this forthcoming EP has been wicked so i wanted to give something back in terms of a bit of a discussion about the tracks.
Poem Electronique: For me this track was all about experimenting with very short Arp's, so rather than a 16 note Arp sequence it was all about little snippets. In terms of the speaking sample its something i'd prefer not to give the source of away, just for copyright reasons! If you listen carefully though you might be to able to understand whats going on. Its an exchange between two psychologists, one receiving therapy and the other asking pertinent questions. I had this little discourse for about a year and what really drew me to it was the interchange between the two speakers, in terms of sound design i really wanted to make them seem like two separate voices as well, a little bit of pitching came in handy here! I'm not gonna say anything about what it 'means' or start getting too deep but i think if you can pick out the phrases its quite a interesting little exchange.
Urban Environment: Again like the above i really wanted to convey something interesting in this track through dialogue/speech. I think if you listen to the dialogue here the message is more clear than in Poem Elec. For me the importance of understanding and respecting nature is a theme that should be at the forefront of everyone's mind. Without sounding too preachy i think alot of electronic music gets wrapped up in the 'technological' side of things, given that alot of this music is made in computers. With this in mind i found the idea of nature still existing and being visible in Urban areas really interesting. And i do think there is a genuine tension between making interesting organic music and the techniques and tools we use.
I have probably said far too much here! Hope people enjoyed reading a little bit about the tracks. :)

Stats/Riley dropped!
Very proud to announce that my first 12' dropped on Monday, you can grab it at all good vinyl outlets or for those more digitally inclined at Beatport (exclusive for 2 weeks!).
Don't want to say too much about the tracks insofar as i hope the music speaks for itself. However i will say that both tracks came together really quickly in November and expressed the kind of slightly random syncopated rhythms i was exploring with my drums at that point, buttressed by some quite obscure samples i had stumbled upon. Was amazed by the response i got from some people in Drum and Bass who i really respect and hope this is going to be the first of many slices of 'Mode' music to surface in 2010.
